Software Engineer

I build software people actually use.

Full-stack web, cross-platform mobile, and augmented reality. I'm a computer science graduate from BYU–Idaho with two projects running live in production today, including the site and infrastructure behind my family's business.

Selected work

Four projects. Two of them are live in production and actively maintained.

OneCook

Live

A full-stack app built around once-a-month cooking, the practice of batch-cooking a month of freezer meals in one session instead of cooking from scratch every night. It started as my senior project at BYU–Idaho and I've kept building on it since graduating.

  • Auto-generated grocery lists that aggregate every ingredient across a full month of meals
  • Cook-day planner with freezer inventory tracking
  • Recipe scaling, step-by-step cooking mode, and PDF export
  • Authentication backed by a real relational database

Maple Wood Assisted Living

Live

A production website rebuild and infrastructure migration for my family's assisted living home in Hayden, Idaho. I replaced an aging WordPress and Elementor site with a fast static build, and I still maintain it.

  • Migrated DNS and nameservers with zero downtime to the business's live email
  • Moved video testimonials off YouTube onto Cloudflare R2 and served them natively
  • Built a working contact form on Cloudflare Turnstile and Resend

AR Interaction Prototype

An augmented reality project exploring how virtual objects can behave believably on real-world surfaces.

  • Surface detection through AR Foundation and ARKit
  • Tap-to-place spawning, plus grab and drag using AR raycasts and rigidbody physics
  • Stacking and pass-through interactions between placed objects

C++ · Paired coursework

Apollo Lander Simulator

A 2D physics simulation of the Apollo lunar module's descent, covering thrust, gravity, fuel consumption, and landing detection against procedurally generated terrain.

  • Real-time simulation of position, velocity, acceleration, angle, and thrust
  • Unit test suite covering the core physics and state classes
  • Built with a classmate at BYU–Idaho

Software Engineer Intern

Evu (Realidream) · Remote

  • Built a cross-platform AR prototype that renders a live camera feed, detects real-world surfaces, and enables physics-based object placement and interaction.
  • Used AR raycasts and rigidbody physics to create tap-to-place, grab and drag, through, and stack interactions on real surfaces.
  • Resolved camera feed rendering issues on iOS through renderer configuration and background compositing.
  • Planned integration of on-device machine learning with TensorFlow Lite and hand tracking for object detection and touch-free interaction.

Coursework across algorithms and data structures, object-oriented design, computer graphics, and software engineering practice. OneCook was my senior project.

About

Portrait of Jacob Isaksen

Jacob Isaksen

I like building practical, user-focused software from the ground up, and then living with it long enough to make it genuinely good.

I'm especially drawn to full-stack and backend work, where I can solve real problems, debug complex issues, and ship things people depend on.

Most of what I've built started as an actual problem in front of me rather than a tutorial. OneCook exists because my wife wanted to do once-a-month cooking and hated combining a dozen recipes into one shopping list. The Maple Wood site exists because my parents' business needed one that worked.

That includes the unglamorous parts. I've migrated live DNS without dropping a business's email, tracked down iOS rendering bugs in a camera pipeline, and kept production sites running after launch day. I take a hands-on approach to problem solving. I break things down, figure out what's actually happening, and keep improving a system until it works reliably.
